Khatu Shyamji Fair is basically celebrated with the purpose of recalling the marvelous legends of Khatu Shyamji. A large number of followers visit the well known Shyamji temple which is a sacred pilgrimage place. The fair demonstrate the wonderful tradition and armored religious beliefs of different communities of Rajasthan. Many Rajput families, to complete the ceremony of Jadula(hair cut of baby) specially make their presence in the fair.

Evolution of fair of Khatu Shyamji has several stories linked with it. Prior to the grand combat of Mahabharata, Bhima’s son Babhruvahan insisted Pandavas and Lord Krishna to let him fight in their favor. Then Lord Krishna tested his capabilities and said that he is too powerful to fight in the battle ground and didn’t allow him to participate in fight. Babhruvahan camouflaged himself as a saint and asked Barbarik to donate his head. Barabarik was a strong worshiper of Lord Krishna and hence he got the boon to be known and venerated as Shyam in Kaliyug.

Every year scores of pilgrims gather at the temple of Shyamji in the period of Phalgun Sudi Dashmi to Dwadashi. This mind blowing fair goes on till three days. Everybody coming from all over the nation has great excitement in their hearts about the fair and its rituals.
