





Shri Mahavirji Fair is celebrated on 24th tirthankara of Jains which is held in the period of Chaitra Shukla Ekadasi to Baisakh Krishna Dwitiya (March-April). The memorial of Mahavirji is located in 'katala'. The temple is considered immensely sacramental in community of Digambar Jains. The Main tower of glory is a major attraction for visitors coming from different states of the country. The region of Chandangaon is the place where the fair is organized annually.
The main highlight of Shri Mahavirji Fair is the glorious Rath Yatra in which the disciples take the idol of Lord Mahavir to the bank of Gambhiri River with a huge rally. The idol is placed in a Golden Chariot which is pulled by bullocks. Throughout the rally, the pilgrims reverberates the hymns to purify the environment. On the culmination of rally, the entire region resounds with sporadic slogans of 'Shri Mahavir Swami Ki jai'.
The ceremony of Abhishek can’t be missed out as it is carried out on grand scale and in very rigorous manner. The idol of Mahavirji is cleansed for evening aarti(worship). The offerings of rice, white and yellow flowers, sandalwood, camphor, saffron, mishri and dry fruits are submitted in the temple. By the evening, the whole precinct is lighted up which presents a breathtaking view. The whole procession start in morning dawn and round off with complete satisfaction in the heart filled with religious sentiments. There are a number of shops and stalls in the fair where commodities of daily needs can be found.
The real pleasure in fair of Shri Mahavirji can be experienced when the idol is put into the river Gambhiri. The grandeur of the image is this much superb that it enchants the participants of the rally at once.
