





The fair of Sitabari kelwara is organized in the village of Baran District. Normally the fair is held before Dussehra. Sitabari is considered to be the place where Sita, the wife of Lord Ram, was left by Lakshman to serve the period of her banishment. Legend says that a stream sprouted from the ground where Lakshman shot an arrow to fetch water for Sita. This stream is called 'Lakshman Babhuka'.

People from all communities visit Sitabari to bath in the tanks (kunds), which are always filled with hygienic, fresh water. The water of the 'kunds' is believed to be very consecrated and it possesses therapeutic properties.
The well known saga behind fair is associated with Ramayana (The famous Hindu sculpture). Sitabari Fair Kelwara is also visited by many people for taking a holy dip to get rid of the all the sins they have committed in their life. A huge water tank known as 'Lakshman Kund' has an idol of Hanuman fitted outside it.
The Sitabari Fair Kelwara is just not a religious fête but from business point of view, it holds great importance. People from nearby districts as well as adjoining States and villages come to the fair to accumulate as much profits as they can. Cattle breeders also register their presence in the fair with a variety of breeds like Jhalawar, Aklera, Bundi, Kota , Bhilwara and Nagaur. For many people the fair is getting in on the act.
The devotees with unlimited sacred feeling in heart bestow offerings of cash, grain, 'Batashas', jaggery, coconut etc to the deities. The fair is a must visit.
