Umaid Bhawan Palace (Jodhpur)- The blend of modernity and convention

Jodhpur is second largest state of Rajasthan and popular for large number of forts, palaces and temples. Umaid Bhawan Palace is one of the grand palaces of Jodhpur which is sprawled upon 26 acres of green gardens. The whole palace is constructed by original golden-yellow sandstone. The king Umaid Singh specifically hired the craftsman with the knowledge of latest architectural techniques to give the palace finest looks. The design firstly stroked in the mind of Edwardian architect Henry Lanchester who was hired by King Umaid Singh. The main motive behind the construction of this distinctive palace was to help the unemployed farmers suffering because of annual famine. Another interesting fact about the Umaid Bhawan Palace is that it is the last palace built in India. There are altogether 347 rooms in the premises of palace.
